Cindy (Xinyi) Ye (b. 2002, China) is a multimedia artist based in Beijing and Rhode Island. Currently pursuing a BFA in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Ye’s practice centers on the disappearance of childhood, examining the continually constructed and increasingly blurred boundaries between childhood and adulthood. Approaching childhood not as a natural state, but as a socially constructed concept that is continually produced and reshaped through institutions, culture, media, and entertainment. 

Working across soft sculpture, painting, and large installations, Ye employs toys, decorative materials, and found objects as a visual vocabulary to construct spaces suspended between play and discipline. Through a highly saturated, childlike aesthetic and an almost mischievous mode of intervention, her work disrupts familiar modes of perception and emotional response, revealing the complex social mechanisms embedded beneath them while exploring the relationships between memory, nostalgia, and the construction of identity.
